TYPES of TAPS
Starting Taps
- Start threads and tap through-holes.
- These taps have 7-10 tapered threads at the tip that guide the tap into your hole.
- They're also known as taper-chamfer taps.
Plug Taps
- Through-Hole Taps—Use for start-to-finish tapping of through-holes.
- These taps have 3-5 tapered threads at the tip to guide the tap into your hole, but they're not as good for starting threads.
- They're also known as plug-chamfer taps.
Bottom Taps
- Closed-End Hole Taps—Thread close to the bottom of closed-end holes.
- These taps have 1-2 tapered threads to guide the tap into your hole, but they're not as good for starting threads.
- They’re also known as bottoming-chamfer taps.
